About

Baldío: Adj. Void, without reason or foundation. Independent design studio based in Guadalajara, Mexico. Inspired by non-linear explorations and poetic observation.

Since 2021, Marco Ochoa and Ricardo López Epelstein have been dedicated to developing their brand with a focus on innovative methodologies that push the boundaries of traditional design thinking. Their work seeks to challenge established conventions, both in terms of design principles and the way objects are conceptualized and understood. Rather than following referenced trends, they explore new ways of engaging with materials, form, and function. Their approach is particularly inspired by a deep appreciation for natural materials, such as wood, stone, and metal, which they incorporate into their designs in ways that highlight their raw, unrefined beauty.

Our Vision

Baldío strives to design and create objects that evoke more subtle expressions of beauty, often found in gestures and details that are typically regarded as minor or secondary. The goal is to craft pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also rich in spirit, capable of offering a deeper narrative to those who engage with them. These objects are designed to resonate on a personal level, imbuing a sense of meaning and significance to the everyday lives of their users.

Tradition & Craftsmanship

An equally important aspect of Baldío’s mission is to honor and elevate the collaborative work with artisans who preserve traditional craftsmanship techniques that are fundamental to Mexico’s design heritage. By partnering with these skilled artisans, Baldío ensures that the knowledge and expertise embedded in centuries-old traditions are kept alive, while simultaneously supporting the continued evolution of high-quality design in Mexico.

Functional & thought provoking

At its core, the studio values sensitivity, collaboration, and curiosity, seeing them as essential drivers in the creation of objects that go beyond mere functionality. These principles guide the studio’s work towards pieces that invite contemplation and spark the imagination, encouraging a deeper connection to the objects we live with. Through this approach, Baldío seeks to create designs that are not just functional, but also thought-provoking and emotionally resonant, offering an experience that goes far beyond the surface.
